Airfare

Some ways that I have used in real world applications to save money, time or stress

Ideas for Saving Money

  • When Packing I always roll my clothes and then place in my suitcase. I always try to stuff socks in my shoes that I am putting in my suitcase as well.

  • I always like to take zip lock freezer bags for the return trip. While on the trip I will put my dirty clothes in the zip lock freezer bags so I can push the air out and in return my clothes will take up less space leading to more room for souvenirs. I personally use 2 gallon freezer bags. These work great. https://amzn.to/3QlMQdW This is an affiliate link to amazon.

  • ***I would be careful to not exceed the weight as posted by the airline***

  • Book ahead and on non peak days if your schedule allows. Usually Tuesday through Thursday are less busy, but this is based on route.

  • If your flight has a stop over make the most out of it. If its long enough sometimes it is nice to leave the airport and explore where you are at. Just make sure you make it back for your departing flight.

  • If you can, I recommend with wise budgeting to have a Credit Card that rewards you with flight points. You spend money might as well get rewarded with it.

  • Travel Insurance is something I always recommend, You just never know when an airline will loose a suitcase or not be able to put you in a hotel when your flight has been canceled.

  • If you have small items that can fit in your pockets and it is not a incredibly long flight put them in your pocket instead of in your suitcase. If long flight your comfort maybe more of a priority.

Ideas for Saving Stress and How to be More comfortable

  • If you would like to avoid turbulence book your flight for earlier in the morning. The weather is usually more stable which will lead to a better flight.

  • Try to select a seat over the wing, if the plane does hit turbulence it will be less noticeable compared to the front or the rear of the plane.

  • This one should go without saying but be nice to the flight attendants. Their job is to ensure your safety first and take care of your wants second.

  • If you are getting ready for a longer flight, avoid alcohol if possible. One of the most difficult things about flying long distance is staying hydrated. I always like to personally bring and empty water bottle in my personal bag so I can fill up past security and have some water to drink for the flight.

  • Especially in this day and age I definitely recommend alcohol wipes and hand sanitizer. They try to clean planes as best as possible but it is not perfect.

  • If you are taller individual and not ready to spring the money to upgrade your seat selection. I recommend isle seat personally. You can stretch out a little bit at times, but also be weary of your knees and the beverage cart (it hurts to get hit).

  • One travel accessory that I cannot travel without it my noise canceling headphones.

  • If you have a layover but not long enough to leave the airport, I recommend getting a day pass to one of the airlines airport lounges. I have seen passes typically around the $60 USD range. This gives you a chance to freshen up a little and relax in much more comfortable area than the typical airport waiting area.

  • Before leaving for a long flight, get up and walk. Your legs will thank you.
